Well, I'm working on the next commision and the customer would like a lot of celtic appointments (inlay work) on the guitar. Here are some ideas I have and I would like your artistic input please. The wood is imbuia B/S, Dark WRC top, and ebony headplate, FB, bridge and bindings. So I was thinking of going all gold MOP for the rest of the accents (inlay). I am asking the client what she would like, she's having a bit of a hard time deciding. First off here is a sketch of the guitar ![]() Now the tuners and the rosette ![]() ![]() Or I could go with Paua inlay material ![]() What do you guys think? I need some visual help here please. Thanks |

So you two think I should go all gold, or should I do the Paua? That's the real question. |

Depends on the top wood if a redwood or cedar Paua. If a spruce all gold in my opinion |

I say gold MOP all the way through. I don't think it would look good with all gold, then abalone just for the rosette. I think all gold will go with the tuners and peghead of ebony. That gold and black theme looks good with celtic designs. Good luck. Tracy |

I think all gold would look very nice. More organic, if you will. The abalone is nice too, but my personnal taste would be for the gold all around. I think the fact that the guitar will have a 'dark' look with the RWC top and all ebony trims, permits the full use of the gold. It will just add accents that should contrast beautifully with all the rest, IMO. ( I think this will look very very cool... I'm planing an EIR, curly redwood top and ebony trim myself.) |

Yeah, go with the gold, Rod. It`ll match up with the appointments more gooder, IMHO |

Another vote for all gold. A green pufling line would look good with the black and gold too. |

Thanks ya'll I am also leaning toward the Gold MOP. I think it will keep it all simple. Hesh, the contrasting bridge pins is a good idea. Maybe I will make the rings of the cross the same wood as the bridge pins to tie it all together. Thanks again for the help folks. |

Oh, and maybe scale the headstock one down just a bit, so it doesn't overpower the f/b inlays which are very cool! |

Rod, I'd go gold. I'm building twin dreads now Curly Cherry) with all gold MOP and the same Schaller tuners you have, and all ebony bindings,fb, bridge, headplate. I can't show it yet, but the black and gold really look nice. I'm planning on using that same rosette on a future guitar for a Scottish friend, so I need you to let us know how well it inlays. Ron |

No problem Ron, I'll keep you all posted. Larry, I think scaling down the headstock inlay is a good idea too. Thanks |
